Psalms for Messiah

1) Lamentations 3:1-27 – I Am the Man that Has Seen Affliction

I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.
Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.

My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.
He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.
He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.
He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.
He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.
He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.
I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.
He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:
Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Repeat
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

Psalm 22a – Why Have You Forsaken Me?

| Am-C-G-Am | F-C-E-Am; F-C-G-Am; F-C-E-Am |
My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
Why are You so far from saving me?
Why are You so far from the words of my groaning?

Oh my God! I cry out by day and you don’t answer me.
Oh my God! I cry out by night and I’m not silent.

Yet You’re enthroned as the Holy One.
You are the praise of Israel!
In You our fathers put their trust.
They trusted You and You delivered them.
They cried to You and they were saved.
They trusted You and they were not confounded.

But… I am a worm and not a man.
Scorned by men and despised by the people.
All they that see me laugh me to scorn.
They shoot out the lip, the shake their heads saying…
He trusts in the LORD, let the LORD rescue him.
Let Him deliver him, since He delights in him.

Yet You are He that brought me out of the womb.
You made me trust upon my mother’s breast.
From birth I was cast upon You.
From my mother’s womb you have been my God.
Do not be far from me.
Trouble is near and there’s no one to help.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

3) Psalm 22b – They Have Pierced My Hands and My Feet

| Am-D | Am-D-E |
Many bulls surround me.
Strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.
Roaring lions tearing their prey,
open their mouths wide against me.

I am poured out like water
and all my bones are out of joint!
My heart is turned to wax;
It is melted away within me.
Away within me… Away… within me.

My strength is dried up like a potsherd.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You lay me in the dust of death.
Dogs have surrounded me;
A band of evil men encircled me.

They’ve pierced my hands and my feet.
I can count all of my bones.
People stare and gloat over me.
They gloat over me. They gloat… over me.

They divide my garments among them;
…And cast lots for my clothing.
Do not be far from me O LORD!

O my strength come quickly to help me!
Deliver my life from the sword
My precious life… my precious life…
from the power of the dogs.
Save me from the mouth of the lions!

4) Psalm 22c – He Has Accomplished It

| Am-Dm-E | F-G-C-E-Am; F-G-Am |
I will declare Thy Name unto my brethren;
In the midst of the congregation I will praise You.

You who fear the LORD, praise Him!
All you, seed of Jacob, glorify Him.
Fear Him, all you seed of Israel!

For He has not despised nor abhorred
the affliction of the afflicted One,
nor has He hid His face from him;
but when he cried unto Him He heard.

My praise shall be of Thee, in the great assembly.
I will pay my vows before them that fear Him.
The meek shall eat and be satisfied
They shall praise the LORD that seek Him:
your heart shall live forever!

All of the ends of the earth shall turn;
shall remember and turn unto the LORD;
And all the families of the nations
shall worship before Him;
for the Kingdom is the LORD’s.
He is the governor among the nations!

All of the rich of the earth will feast… (and worship)
All who go down to the dust will kneel (before Him)
and worship before Him
Those who cannot keep themselves alive.

Future generations will be told about the LORD,
and a seed shall serve Him.
They shall proclaim His righteousness
to a people yet unborn.
For He has accomplished it!
He has done it! repeat

6) Psalm 2 – I Have Installed My King on Zion

| C-Am-F-G |
1 Why do the nations rage,
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings and the rulers of the earth
take their stand
against the Lord
and against His anointed.
Selah
3 “Let us break their chains,” they say,
“and cast away their cords.”
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then He rebukes them in His anger
and terrifies them in His wrath,
6 “I have installed My king on Zion,
My holy hill.”
Selah
7 I will proclaim the decree of the Lord:
He said to me, “You are My Son;
Today I have become your Father.
8 Ask of Me and I will make
the nations your inheritance
Ask of Me and I will make
the ends of earth your possession.”
6 “I have installed My king on Zion,
My holy hill.”
Selah
9 You will break them with an iron rod.
You’ll smash them like a potter’s jar.
10 Therefore you kings be wise;
be warned you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord in fear;
rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry
and you perish in the way
when His wrath is kindled:
Blessed are they
that put their trust in Him.
6 “I have installed My king on Zion,
My holy hill.”
Repeat

7) Psalm 110 – The LORD Has Sworn

| Am-G-E-Am | Dm-Am-Dm-Am-F-G-Am | Dm-Am-E |
1 The LORD said unto my Lord
“Sit Thou at My right hand,
until I make your enemies
a footstool under your feet.”
2 The LORD will extend
your mighty scepter from Zion.
You will rule
in the midst of your enemies.
3 Your people will be willing in
the Day of your power.
In the beauties of holiness,
from the womb of the morning,
You have the dew of Thy youth.
4 The LORD has sworn
(and He will not change His mind)
“You are a priest forever;
After the order of Melchizedek
You are a priest forever.”
5 My Lord at Thy right hand
will strike through kings in that Day.
He will strike through kings in that Day;
in the Day of His wrath.
6 He will judge the nations
heaping up the dead;
crushing the rulers of the earth.
7 He shall drink of the brook
beside the way;
therefore he’ll lift up the head.
3 In the beauties of holiness,
from the womb of the morning,
You have the dew of Thy youth.

8) Psalm 132 – LORD Remember David

| G-C-D; C-G-D; C-D |
LORD, remember David!
and all of his afflictions…
How he sware unto the LORD,
vowed unto the mighty God
of Jacob…

Surely I will not come
into the tabernacle of my house,
nor go up into my bed,
Nor go up into my bed.
I will not give sleep unto my eyes,
nor slumber to mine eyelids,
Until I find a place for the LORD;
a habitation for the mighty God
of Jacob…

Lo we heard of it at Ephratah.
We found it in the field
of the wood,
We will come into His house,
we will worship at His feet.

Arise O LORD into Thy rest;
Thou, and the ark of Thy strength.
Let Thy priests be clothed
with righteousness.
And let Thy saints shout for joy
Let Thy saints shout for joy!

LORD, remember David!
and all of his afflictions…
How he sware unto the LORD,
vowed unto the mighty God
of Jacob…

For Thy servant David’s sake,
turn not away the face of Thine anointed.
The LORD has sworn in truth unto David;
He will not turn from it.

For the LORD hath chosen Zion.
He has desired it for His habitation.
“This is My rest forever.
Here will I dwell.
I have desired it.”

“I will abundantly
bless her provision,
satisfy her poor with bread”
I will also clothe her priests with salvation;
And her saints shall shout aloud for joy,
and her saints shall shout aloud for joy!”

LORD, remember David!
and all of his afflictions…
How he sware unto the LORD,
vowed unto the mighty God

1Who… Who hath believed our report?
and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
2For he shall grow up before him as a tender shoot,
and a root out of the dry, dry ground:
He hath no form nor comeliness;
and when we shall see him,
there is no beauty
that we should desire him.
3He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4Surely he hath borne our griefs, carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him, smitten of God;
stricken, afflicted, smitten of God.
5But he was wounded for our transgressions,
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned every one to his own way;
and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not…
He opened not his mouth:
he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
so he opened not…
He opened not his mouth.
8He was taken from prison; taken from judgment:
and who shall declare his generation?
for he was cut off out of the land of the living:
for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9And he made his grave with the wicked,
and with the rich… the rich in his death;
because he had done no violence,
nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him;
he hath put him to grief:
when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin,
He shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days,
and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11He shall see of the travail of his soul,
and He shall be… satisfied:
by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify
many;
for he
shall bear their iniquities.
12Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great,
and He shall divide the spoil…
the spoil with the strong;
because he has poured out his soul unto death:
with the transgressors was he numbered;
and He bare the sin of many,
for the transgressors He intercedes.

9) Zechariah 12:10-14 – They Shall Look Upon Me Whom They Have Pierced

10And I will pour upon the house of David,
and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
the spirit of grace and of supplications:
and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son,
and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
11In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem,
as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
12And the land shall mourn, every family apart; (All the families that remain)
the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart;
the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;
13The family of the house of Levi apart,and their wives apart;
the family of Simeon apart, and their wives apart;
14All the families that remain,
every family apart, and their wives apart.
